Friends, we’re going to dive into a challenging and important topic: sexual harassment on the field. What prompted this series was today’s podcast episode with Rachel Pieh Jones. We realized we wanted to slow down and lean into a topic that can be uncomfortable. You can listen to the episode here.
Clearly this is not a light topic, yet it is an important one to talk about. Though the majority of sexual harassment occurs against women, we also know that men can experience it, both genders witness it, and it can happen to our children. We’ve created a survey—if you’re new to Global Trellis, we like gathering from your collective wisdom and experiences.
This survey is about sexual harassment/assault, and if for both those who have experienced or witnessed sexual harassment/assault. It will be open until the end of January. Thank you in advance for participating in the survey and sharing it. Take the survey here.
In addition, Rachel has gathered a list of resources. We will update this list as we get resources you share in the survey. You can download the resources here.
On Thursday You can read an article written by Rachel about 8 Ways to Address Sexual Harassment in a Cross-Cultural Context.
Next Tuesday you can read an academic article Rachel wrote on Embodied Interreligious Engagement: Female Gendered Bodies, Reconciliation, and Sport in Djibouti.
Instead of dumping all of the resources on you and overwhelming all of us, this rhythm allows for you (and all of us) to think about, pray through, get angry, be sad, and share your experiences anonymously.
Want to be sure you don’t miss the articles? You can subscribe here.
As I said at the top of this, we know this is a hard topic, but sexual harassment happens, so let’s talk about it. Thank you for taking the survey. We will share the results with you!
As Rachel says in the podcast, the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob is also the God of Sarah, Hagar, Keturah, Rebekah, Leah, Rachel, Zilpah, and Bilhah.
Amen. Thanks for being interested in discussing sexual harassment and assault with us.
