Friend, if we’re honest, many of the ways we prepare for Christmas don’t point to Christ as much as they could.
I am not interested in bashing the decorations, music, gifts, and other ways we prepare. They do help to build anticipation. But what if we could help you have a few moments of focused-on-Jesus anticipation?
The song “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” is a favorite at Global Trellis and has become a part of our annual preparation for Christmas. A couple of years ago, I went down a bunny trail in December. Did you know that the carol “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” has seven verses that each highlight a title for Christ?
Historically in the church calendar, the last seven days of Advent—December 17 to 23—focus on a verse in the song. If you’re like me, I want to be the kind of person who will use this beautiful song to focus December 17th to the 23rd for a few minutes each day on Jesus. Sadly, left to myself, my good intentions will fall to the way side. You too?
Help is on the way :).
Sign up today and starting on December 17th a daily email will slip into your inbox ushering you for a few minutes that day into focused anticipation of Jesus’ birth.
