Time—Establishing Rhythms of Life with Christ (Week 6)

Mar 28, 2023 | 0 comments

Today we add the sixth beam to this scaffolding we’re putting up as we move towards building a Rule of Life. This is the sixth of our ten devotionals. Even though we’re more than halfway through, it’s good to review why we’re spending 10 weeks on these devotionals. The goal of the devotionals is to allow you to assess different parts of your life before you start building a rule of life. Thus far we considered our roles and relationships (week 1), spiritual gifts, talents, and temperament (week 2), desires and longings (week 3), God’s vision for his kingdom (week 4), and your place in “the work” (week 5). This week you’ll spend time with God exploring more deeply how your time is spent, invested, or experienced.

Here’s a snippet from this week’s worksheet: “This week you will review how you spend each hour of your day. Very literally, you will look at how you live out each 24-hour day, leave no moment unaccounted for. Feel free to use the exploratory worksheet from ‘Reflecting on an Ordinary Day.’ Spend time noticing what your timetable revolves around and what motivates how you use your time.”

At the beginning of this process we got a bit of push back. The response was some version of “Ha! I can’t track a ‘normal’ day. There is nothing normal about my life.” We get that, we really do. But, do you eat? Do you do things? Do you commute or go from place to place? We know you do :). So, even if your days look different day-to-day, this week is still for you, dear friend.

We’re praying for you!
